Flamingo house was designed on a plot of land located just ~ 1km from the historic center of Żory. On the eastern side, it borders on local street on the other side of which begins the city’s recreational and park areas, arranged in the historic area of the former brickyard and stretching all the way to the very center.
The plot has a unique terrain.
It is very diverse in terms of height. Its highest part runs along the southern border of the plot and significantly descends to the north along the road and to the north-west, creating a depression there. The difference in height across the plot is approx. 5 m.2.2 LOCATION ON THE PLOTThe building was located in the north-eastern part of the plot in such a way as to obtain as large a partition as possible on the south side of the house.
It was planned on a linear system of 2 intersecting W-Z and PN-PD axes. One of them was stretched parallel to the road and set in the upper part of the plot. The second axis is stretched parallel to the northern border of the plot and is embedded in the basin of the site.
The building located in this way made it possible to isolate the private part from the public road and from the neighboring terraced houses, and at the same time to fully open up to the southern exposure. This part of the plot seems to be the most attractive; with terrain climbing upwards, covered with natural vegetation; trees and shrubs.
This location of the building optimally uses the natural shape of the plot.2.3 VOLUMEFrom ul. On the Nice side, a rectangular, light shape of the building will be visible, constituting a barrier limiting the view into the space used by the household members. This part of the building was raised above the ground level and cut off the ground with a glazing belt, which gives it lightness and the effect of a levitating object. The lower storey has been organized around an internal patio and overlooks the plot.Additionally, the representative character of the entrance and reception area is emphasized by elegant interior design elements, such as: decorative lighting fixtures in a spatial form, comfortable leather furniture and lively greenery.FUNCTIONAL LAYOUTIn the upper part visible from the street, there are bedrooms and bathrooms of the household members.
These rooms have been arranged so as to provide users with attractive views of the tree-lined south-western part of the plot, while at the same time separating them with full walls from the side of the public road. Only the office, intended as a workplace, has a view of the entrance and entry zone to the plot.
The entrance itself and the location of the garage have been designed to take advantage of the natural terrain which slopes quite significantly to the north-west.
Thanks to this, the gently shaped ramp can serve as an access and access to the building at the same time.
There are daytime functions around the patio; spacious living room with dining area and open kitchen, home gym and spa area, entrance area and utility facilities. In the very center of the patio there will be a shallow 6 x 6 m swimming pool with a closed circuit of flowing water.
A narrow stream of water flows out of the pool and continues along the entire southern façade and then cascades down into the garden in a slight cascade. There, an underground hydraulic system equipped with filters is pumped back into the pool and circulates gently, gently humming, and provides a unique microclimate in the interior.
Thanks to the roofs designed over the terraces, the users can use the external part also in less favorable weather conditions and the most favorable viewing openings to the picturesque plot are provided.
Due to the system of full walls, large facade glazing, and covered and uncovered terraces around the patio, the clear boundary between what is inside and outside is blurred.
What was the effect of introducing the landscape inside the building?2.5 FACADESThe layout of the facades is a dynamic game between what is full and transparent, what is light and heavy, full surfaces and sharp edges, and what is light and dark. Full facades send the interior where there is a need to limit the view, and the glazing introduces the most beautiful views of the landscaped garden to the interior.
Massive blocks contrast with the glazed stripes of the facades, creating the impression of levitating compositions. The full planes of smooth walls are adjacent to the sharp edges of the roofs, which, through chiaroscuro, give the building dynamics. The whiteness of the full surfaces is juxtaposed with the dark rhythm of the windows and external facade blinds..
