JMVA Remodel // A21 Architecture + Design

Text description provided by the architects.

A remodel project in Denver’s Hilltop neighborhood to rejuvenate the existing home’s curb appeal and indoor-outdoor living experience. The project strategy for the front, street facing elevation took on a “less is more” concept, while maintaining the existing Spanish influenced architectural style. We removed the existing windows and simplified the facade composition with a new softer stucco finish, and updating the existing fascias and soffits with stained black finish to provide a sharp, modern contrast.

New black rectilinear metal windows illicit a more contemporary look to the street facing elevation, which are surrounded by stacked stone accent columns which give a subtle textural contrast. A new, large black pivot door provides an improved entry experience from the street and correlates with the larger scale of the new windows.

In the back yard the clients asked us to design a 3 season outdoor living space consisting of a grilling area, outdoor kitchen & bar, lounge space and dining space which connects to the home’s interior kitchen and living space through a fully opening glass wall.

The addition of an operable roof pergola by Renson which matches the home’s new black windows and fascias encloses the kitchen and living spaces while a custom Argentine grill is the centerpiece of the grilling area.Photography by Kylie Fitts..
